Yukon’s Josh Sanders – Athlete Spotlight Presented By BancFirst Yukon

When a car is traveling at 95 miles per hour, it’s considered an unsafe speed for most, but for Josh Sanders, a senior baseball player from Yukon, it’s the speed he’s trying to reach.

“I’ve hit 93,” Sanders said simply. “But I also want my ERA to be under 2, and I also don’t want to give up any home runs either.”

Sanders has already signed to play baseball with Texas Tech, and said it’s his dream to be able to move from there into the pinstriped world of Yankee baseball.

“I’ve always dreamed of playing in the MLB,” he said. “Ever since I could remember. And if I got the chance, I would in a heartbeat. I’ve been a Yankees fan ever since I could remember. I’ve always wanted to walk into Yankees Stadium in those pinstripes.”

Off the field, Sanders said he stays busy playing basketball or getting on his Playstation 4. He said his favorite classes are History and Psychology.

“I like learning about the past, and seeing what our ancestors did,” he said. “I like psychology because it shows us why people do the things they do, and why they act the way they act.”

Sanders would like to major in business during his time at Tech, but in the meantime is focused on being a good role model for some of the younger guys in his program.

“I try to help them keep their heads up when they do something wrong, and tell them when they do something good,” Sanders said. “I try and help them focus on the next play, and be there for them when they need my help.”
