Mustang’s Marcus Starega: Athlete of the Month Presented By Canadian Valley Tech Center

The Canadian Valley Tech Athlete of the Month is Marcus Starega, a senior at Mustang High School. Starega is a standout on the track team and currently holds the school record for long jump at 23 feet.

Starega placed at the State meet in long jump as a sophomore and his goal this season is to jump 26 feet and win State.

“I’ve been working a lot harder and working out,” said Starega, “currently lifting weights and doing a lot more sprinting outside of school. Also been training hard for indoor meets coming up in January, for me that’s just seeing where I’m at.”

Starega is also a sprinter and competes in the 4×100, 4×200, 4×400, 100m and 200m.

Marcus is currently taking the Digital Media Technology Program at CV Tech and speaks glowingly about the class.

“I honestly love it, as a senior I’m ahead in everything and in my last quarter this Spring I get to go do an internship at MGP, a company where people can rent cameras in Oklahoma for filming movies,” said Starega.

He also says that he’s truly learned a lot in the program.

“I’m learning how to do all the positioning of where people are in an actual movie studio,” said Starega, “learning how to use a C100 camera, we go on field trips to go help with music videos and movies to help us see what an actual work environment looks like.”

Starega has a 3.3 GPA and is a member of the Key Club and Student Council at Mustang. He has track scholarship offers from OCU, UCO and Oklahoma Christian. His goal to earn a division one scholarship and major in either digital media or cinematography.
