Guthrie’s Anjewel Murillo – Character Counts Presented by BancFirst Guthrie

Freshman basketball point guard for Guthrie High School, Anjewel Murillo, has been playing the sport since she was five years old. Anjewel is also part of the track team and a member of spanish and heritage club.

Being a freshman Anjewel stays motivated by writing her goals down and practicing basketball even on her free time. Balancing being a freshman in high school, with sports, and clubs can be difficult, but Anjewel manages to make sure it all gets done.

“I make sure my academics always come first before I do anything that has to do with basketball, I make sure all my work is turned in and good then I focus on ball,” Anjewel said.

This basketball season she is looking forward to getting better as an individual player and as a team.

“I look forward to getting to play some good teams because it’s only going to make me better and I also am looking forward to helping my team out by being more of a leader and working hard so we can win some games this year,” said Anjewel.

Anjewel has learned several life lessons while playing basketball and one of those lessons she uses on and off the court.

“Basketball has taught me to not give up and to be a good sport even to non basketball players,” said Anjewel.

Even though this is Anjewel’s first year in high school she plays on the varsity team and is very grateful for the opportunity she has been given.
