Edmond North’s Jana Skinner: Mom of the Month – Presented by Dr. Louise Vo, INTEGRIS Family Care Memorial West

Edmond mother of five boys, Jana Skinner, is the Edmond North Mom of the Month. Some of Skinner’s children are involved in the athletic program at Edmond North Public Schools.
Mason, a freshman, is on the Huskies junior high and high school wrestling team. Blake, 10, and Holden, 6, wrestle for a local club team in Edmond called Standfast.
Skinner reached out to the club coaches and high school coaches to offer her spare time as a volunteer. For the past two seasons, Skinner has taken on the volunteer position of heading up the concession stand for all of the junior high and high school wrestling events for the entire season. She does even more for the coaches at Standfast.
“The coaches at Standfast have full-time jobs and are up there at night coaching, so I try to do all their paperwork for them,” Skinner said. “I answer any questions the parents might have. I take payments and help keep them organized because they don’t have much time to deal with the business side.”
The busy schedule with caring for five children and volunteering for several wrestling programs doesn’t keep her from volunteering at her local church as well.
A program like Edmond North depends on the willingness of their volunteers. Skinner’s approach is to help the student-athletes and coaches in all aspects of school life. And getting to spend time with her kids is another plus.
“I think what I like most is being there with my son and connecting with his friends,” Skinner said. “The coaches put so much into our kids, and this sport takes so much of their time. So, I like being able to take a load off their shoulders in any way as a parent to make it a little bit easier and smoother for them.”
