Yukon’s Lorae Kittel: Mom of the Month – Presented by Dr. Ashley Cochran, INTEGRIS Family Care Surrey Hills

By Ember McElrath

Lorae Kittel is a busy mom of five. Justin, 24, Allison, 21, Samantha, 19, and finally Rachel and Shelby, both 16. Rachel competes of the varsity volleyball team for the third year in a row at Yukon High School. Lorae herself played volleyball in middle and high school.

Lorae serves on the Yukon volleyball booster club. She helps to organize concessions stands, fundraising activities, along with planning the team meals for the games and tournaments. Lorae has been volunteering with Yukon volleyball since both of her youngest daughters were in seventh grade. Lorae has a great attitude when it comes to serving others, “I am always willing to help out with whatever needs to be accomplished,” stated Lorae.

Lorae does not only volunteer her time for the volleyball team she also helps out at her local church and enjoys going to the food bank to help serve her community there as well.

Lorae’s favorite part of volunteering is getting to meet and interact with people that she wouldn’t have gotten the chance to otherwise.

“I have made friendships with those I serve with and I love that the ties we have made here at Yukon with volleyball and other places in this community have been amazing,” stated Lorae.

Not every day or week is the same when Lorae is volunteering, but she spends as much time that coach Allred needs from her. She is usually volunteering three to five times a week for volleyball duties.

The reason Lorae started volunteering was to spend more time with her kids.

“It goes by so fast and you blink and they are grown and you wonder where the time goes!” Lorae said.

Coach Rachel Allred says it best, “Lorae is always willing to help the Yukon High School volleyball program in any way needed.  From picking up food for tournaments, shopping for the concession stand, folding and bagging team clothing, etc. She is happy to help and is a real blessing to our coaches and our teams.”
