OFFENSE

The OCS Saints have some work to do in order to reach where they want to be this season. They have great experience in the offensive line to build upon as four of five linemen return from 2018, as well as three other returning offensive starters from last year’s winning season. Jacob Chesley (6-4, 277, Sr.) is an offensive lineman who is being heavily recruited right now, and the Saints have him to their advantage at right tackle. A pair of guards who will also be key to this O-line are Caleb Rogers (5-10, 220, Sr.) and J.T. Mehrens (6-0, 180, Sr.). Braden Roberts (6-2, 178, Jr.) returns to his position at tight end as well. The Saints have another widely recruited player, Jaxon Canard (6-1, 188, Sr.), who will be a great offensive contributor at tailback. Look for Collin Matteson (5-10, 158, So.) to see some action at wide receiver. The offense’s task will be to find a steady QB while also allowing time to bring the new skilled players up to speed.

DEFENSE

A good group of defensive backs and linemen will come back from last fall, including Jaxon Canard as a huge defensive threat at free safety. Joining him in the secondary will be Connor Arnold (6-1, 190, Sr.). Caleb Rogers will serve on this side of the ball as well, with Harrison Baker (5-11, 220, Jr.) in the trenches with him. Gage Gilchrist (6-2, 212, So.) is a young talent who may be seen on the D-line or in a linebacker position. Blaine Franklin (5-10, 182, Sr.) will be a linebacker to watch for. Head coach Derek Turner adds Jimmy Wilkerson, former OU player and NFL defensive lineman, to the coaching staff this year.
