Piedmont’s Hannah Torres – Girls Golf Poll Winner Presented by Iron Nation Harley-Davidson

Recent Piedmont High School graduate Hannah Torres began playing golf her freshman year. After trying it out, she was hooked. “I always grew up around golf so I had an idea of everything but never thought of playing until my freshman year, and I was like, ‘Let’s just try it out and see.’ Turns out I wasn’t half bad,” she said. “I played softball my freshman year but after trying golf I knew at that moment that it was golf all the way.”

In her time playing the sport, Torres says that golf has taught her resilience and perseverance. “The game of golf has taught me that not everything goes your way and you just have to overcome many obstacles,” she said.

She enjoys competing for the Wildcats because with her success on the green, she shines a spotlight on her school. “I think the best thing about playing for the high school is I get to help my school have a name,” she said. “The more I’m at the top of the leaderboard, the more people know about Piedmont.”

Her motivation to do her best comes from her love of the game. “Golf is my passion so I don’t have a problem with working hard because I want to get to my absolute best,” she said. “As for other stuff outside of athletics, if I wanna get to where I wanna be in golf I know I have to keep my head down and get to work on not just golf, but every other event in my life.”

Torres’ role model is her father. “I would say my dad is my biggest role model because even though he pushes me hard in the end he wants the best for me and I know I can get there,” she said.

After finishing a spectacular senior season at Piedmont High, Torres’ future plans include continuing her golf career at Missouri Southern University in Joplin.
