Edmond Memorial’s Dakari Charlton – Boys Track Poll Winner Presented by Iron Nation Harley-Davidson

Dakari Charlton runs track for the Edmond Memorial High School, competing in the 100 and 200. He described his senior season as “very interesting and fun.” He also played football for the Bulldogs. In both of his sports he loves representing his school and giving his best performance.

“My favorite thing is getting recognized for my outstanding performance on the field and on the track by my peers and teachers,” he said.

Charlton has been competing in track since he was five years old. He says that while he is not really sure what first sparked his interest in the sport, there is one thing he knows for certain.

“I’ve always prided myself on being the fastest,” he said.

Family is important to Charlton, and healthy competition with some of his family members has helped motivate him in athletics.

“My older brother and cousins motivate me to be the best at my sports,” he said. “Ever since I was little I’ve always strived to be better than them at everything no matter what it is.”

His brother in particular is someone who Charlton looks up to.

“My older brother is a role model to me because he always does the right thing and leads by example instead of talking about it,” he said.

After high school Charlton plans to further his education and his athletic career in college.
