For Brantley Lawson, being a part of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) has been a very rewarding experience. His involvement has also helped significantly develop his leadership skills, as he finishes his senior year at Blanchard High School as the FCA President.

“I think just the environment that it provides,” Lawson said of what he likes most about FCA. “We just kind of get to be there, to talk about Christ. It’s just a great environment, real refreshing, especially where our lives our today, it’s just kind of a breath of fresh air.”

Lawson, who plays football and was on the powerlifting team at Blanchard, worked his way up to more responsibility with the FCA group each year, serving as Chaplain as a sophomore and Vice President as a junior before moving up to President. He was recently named to the FCA All-State team.

“I kind of work on being the speaker, I kind of help with ordering what we have for lunches, we provide that, and I just try to get as many people involved as I can,” he said of his duties as President.

The athletic aspect of the FCA also provided Lawson with another avenue to find common ground and help pull everyone together into a closer-knit group.

“The athletics, it kind of gives all the guys that go there something in common to talk about,” said Lawson, who is also a member of the National Honors Society and will be attending Oklahoma City Community College (OCCC) next year studying physical therapy. “It really gives me something that will get their interest, whenever I’m bringing a lesson, that everybody can relate to.”

In the most recent powerlifting season that ended in March, Lawson qualified for the state meet and placed ninth.

“Brantley has a strong, Christian family that keeps him grounded and encourages him to be the best person he can be,” said Blanchard football coach Jeff Craig. “That has carried over to his athletic endeavors as well as his classroom and anything else he sets his sight on. His tremendous work ethic has allowed him to excel in everything he does while doing it with a level of class and respect that is unmatched.”
