Nollan Koon – Yukon

By Derrick Smith

There are times that athletes will hear negative feedback about them or their game. As athletes, they have to decide how they are going to handle this. They can either ignore it and move on or they can believe it and give up. Nollan Koon heard cold comments and he used them to get better.

“People have told me from a young age that either I wasn’t good enough or I wasn’t big enough,” Koon said. “I let those comments fuel my fire and I proved people wrong. I didn’t let people tell me I couldn’t, when I knew deep down I could.”

Koon is a senior at Yukon High School. He was a member of the Millers football and baseball teams, but he is now focusing on only baseball and already has plans for the next level.

“After graduation, I will be attending Connors State College, where I will continue by baseball career.”

The game of baseball has been a part of Nollan’s life since he was three years old and in that time, he has had people show him what it takes.

“My father and Coach Yost, one of our assistants at the high school, are two of my biggest influences,” he said. “My dad taught me what type of work it takes to reach the next level and Coach Yost holds me accountable to that and has put in numerous hours of work to help me perfect this game.”

Being named the OKC Area Baseball Player of the Month is significant to Koon.

“It means a lot to know that people have began to realize that I am not just another kid in this sport and that I can play with the rest of them,” he said.

When he is not on the baseball diamond, Nollan serves as Co-President of the school Fellowship of Christian Athletes and is also a part of the National Honor Society.
