Susie Boyer is a mother of two baseball players who have donned the Deer Creek Antlers uniforms. Her oldest, Jordan, is a shortstop and now a senior at Wichita State. Ethan is currently a junior at Deer Creek High who plays in the outfield and also catches. Boyer is very dedicated to being at both of her sons’ games and cheering them on.

“We try to watch as many of the boys’ games as possible,” she said. “Vacations are usually planned around games. Many weekends have been split between a Deer Creek game on Saturday and driving to Wichita on Sunday for WSU games.”

One of the reasons Boyer thinks athletics are important to prioritize is because of the interpersonal skills and values that can be learned from being part of a team.

“I think supporting the boys’ activities is important to encourage them to be a part of a team; helping them learn to how to work with others to reach a goal,” she said.

Boyer is glad to have raised her family in the Deer Creek community, especially because it has remained true to its close-knit roots over the years.

“Our boys have always been a part of the Deer Creek district,” she said. “We moved into the district before we had kids. We chose the district for its outstanding reputation and small-town community feel. I love how even though we are now a 6A school, it still has a great community.”

As an above-and-beyond way of supporting her boys through the Deer Creek High baseball program, Boyer has held the position of treasurer of the Booster Club to help raise money for the team and keep everything organized.

“As treasurer of the Booster Club I work with the rest of the board to develop the budget for the program for the year, collect and deposit money from fundraising activities, write checks to pay bills, and complete necessary annual paperwork,” she said.

Head baseball coach JP Holman has seen the time and effort Boyer puts into the program and is very appreciative of her commitment.

“Susie has her entire spring schedule lined out to where she will miss as few games of either one of her boys as possible,” said Coach Holman. “She spends every night at a ballpark somewhere, and has put countless miles on her car traveling to see her sons play. She is also the treasurer of our booster club, and has held that position since her oldest was a freshman here at Deer Creek. She is an amazing lady, and is the backbone of our program.”

For her dedication to her family and her sons’ baseball careers, Susie Boyer is the Deer Creek Mom of the Month.
